History

Becoming one of the world’s leading Scotch whisky companies has been a long and fascinating journey. The Glenmorangie Company can trace its roots back to 1893. But our whiskies had been giving pleasure to discerning palates for quite some time previously.

1815

Ardbeg Distillery founded on Islay

1843

Glenmorangie Distillery founded in Tain, Ross-shire.

1893

Macdonald & Muir began operating (Edinburgh wine and spirits merchants and original name for The Glenmorangie Company)

1918

Glenmorangie Distillery was acquired by Macdonald & Muir

1996

Macdonald & Muir became Glenmorangie plc

1996

The Company moved from its original premises in Leith (port of Edinburgh) to a larger bottling facility and offices in Broxburn, West Lothian

1997

Glenmorangie plc purchased the Ardbeg Distillery on the island of Islay (founded 1815)

2004

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society joined the Company (established in 1983)

2005

Glenmorangie plc becomes part of Moët Hennessy-Louis Vuitton (LVMH), the world leader in luxury with a portfolio of more than 60 prestigious brands

2010

The Glenmorangie Company moves to a new state-of- the-art Production Facility and Offices in Livingston, West Lothian as well as a new Head Office in central Edinburgh
